Young People

We work with young people from 7 to 11 years old (Juniors) and 11 to 16 years old (Seniors) delivering a wide range of activities that are fun, creative and engaging.

All our activities are underpinned by our three outcomes for young people’s wellbeing and development:

  • Improved relationships and social skills

  • Increased self-confidence and resilience

  • Healthier lifestyle choices

GapACTIVE! – sports and team games to encourage teamwork, spatial awarenesss and an active lifestyle.

GapCHALLENGE! - teamwork activities inside and outside. The challenges include problemsolving games and STEM activities such as creating egg parachutes to safely launch an egg from a height …all great fun and excellent for developing physical and cognitive skills.

GapGO! – Outdoor Skills such as shelter-building, navigation, First Aid, camp craft, fire safety, outdoor cooking, survival skills, pioneering and natural crafts. Activities are designed to encourage teamwork, resilience and leadership skills as well as improved self-confidence and wellbeing.

GapCREATIVE! – Arts & Crafts as well as STEM activities such as DIY slime. We aim to help young people develop their listening and communication skills, confidence, creativity, relationships, social skills and fine-motor skills.

GapCOOK! cooking workshops to equip young people with valuable life skills, improve their confidence and knowledge of cooking techniques and enable them to improve their practical cooking skills. The emphasis is upon healthy eating and the benefits of eating a range of dishes, cooked from fresh ingredients and avoiding the use of salty, sugary processed products. Some theoretical information is woven into the workshops to ensure food is prepared to good food hygiene standards and to give children an understanding of our nutritional needs for a healthy lifestyle. We give young people a recipe sheet to share with their parents/carers to enable the family to try making the dishes at home that children have practised at GapCOOK!
